The Horsemen Aerobatic Team

World’s Only P-51 Mustang Formation Aerobatic Team

There is only one “Cadillac Of The Sky”, the iconic fighter of WWII, the legendary P-51 Mustang. Since that time no one has attempted to harness the grace and power of these wild stallions and ride them locked in step as a formation aerobatic team… until now.

The Horsemen pilots, Steve Hinton (Lead), Dan Friedkin (#2 right wing), and Ed Shipley (#3 left wing) are humbled and honored to showcase the historic heritage of the mighty Mustang with a locked tight surface level formation aerobatic display. Steve, Dan, and Ed, all share a passion to search the skies for fleeting moments of formation perfection. A place where time freezes, the earth rotates around them, and the team becomes one… a band of brothers.

The Horsemen’s heart pounding ride is choreographed to an original score from Oscar winning composer James Horner. James is the musical genius behind such legendary films as, Avatar, Titanic, Braveheart, Apollo 13, A Beautiful Mind, Field Of Dreams, Glory, and The Rocketeer… to name a few. The Horsemen believe James flawlessly captured the essence of flight and eloquently emotes the spirit of its soul. Horner’s magical masterpiece, mixed with the roar of three Merlin engines, truly makes The Horsemen’s aerial ballet a work of art.

Lucas Oil

Lucas Oil Air Show Pilot Michael Wiskus

Like many of the show pilots, Mike’s passion for aviation started when he was very young. Mike’s Dad took him to his first air show at their home town in Iowa at the age of 10. The show made an everlasting impression so deep that at 14, Mike begged for a job at the Mason City Iowa airport washing airplanes and cleaning hangars just to be around airplanes. Later, he traded his work for flying lessons and received his Pilots License on his 17th birthday.

Thirty years later, Mike has accumulated more than 23,000 flight hours and has qualified in more than 30 aircraft. Today, Mike keeps busy by flying for Corporate America as well as keeping a full time air show schedule from April through November.

Mike’s plane is a Pitts S1, a light aerobatic biplane designed by Curtis Pitts. The Pitts biplane dominated world aerobatic competition in the 1960s and 1970s and, even today, remains a potent competition aircraft.

jetcar

Smoke-N-Thunder Jet Shows

As it's escorted to the runway, it looks like a long, low toy, but that big Westinghouse J34-48 jet engine sticking out of the back visually says "Stand Back!" When driver Bill Braack cranks it, this JetCar can hit a speed of 400 mph in eight seconds. If it traveled any longer or faster, it would struggle to become airborne. Bill prefers that it stay on the ground and beat air show performers foolish enough to try to match their planes up against the Smoke-n-thunder JetCar. He even gives them a head start and the JetCar still wins.
